Originally from West London, Sophie has directed productions both in the UK and internationally, including: Classical Adaptations, Musicals, New Writing, Site-Specific Productions and Audio Drama.
She is passionate about new writing and writers, functioning also as a dramaturg during the script development process. She has directed productions exploring political, personal and global themes, both comedies and dramas. As a director, her shows always use strong elements of sound, music and lighting, often also working with movement and dance. Recent directing credits include: Pop Art R&D (both online and live) a new pop musical by award-winning duo Leo&Hyde; The Truth Stops Here a new musical from 19 Steps Productions; a two-person touring version of ‘A Christmas Carol’ & new audio comedy ‘Blag’ produced by Chicago company ECT. She has also directed numerous classical adaptations, usually with a modern twist, including: a contemporary re-telling of ‘Hansel & Gretel’ which toured theatres in South East England; a new radio adaptation of ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’ and a contemporary, gender-switched production of ‘Miss Sherlock Holmes’, originally commissioned by the Conan Doyle Collection, which toured in association with Babylon Arts for 2022. Sophie is a member of the Young Vic Director’s Programme and is also the Artistic Director of Lantern Light Theatre Company. |
